The Pierre City Commission has approved (Nov. 26, 2024) increases to a number of fees, effective Jan. 1, 2025.
City Finance Director Lacey Walz says the increases were recommended by staff and their research shows the fees are in line with the rates charged by other like-sized communities across South Dakota.
Walz says the majority of the fee changes are for construction related services such as excavations and disposal of asbestos, rubble and demolition debris. But, she says, there are also a few fee updates for services provided at Rawlins Municipal Library.
City Commissioner Jamie Huizenga says the fee changes are to help offset the cost of providing these services, not to make money.
Walz says people can find information about all fees charged by the City of Pierre by going to their website.
Pierre residential utility customers will see their monthly recycling fee go up 10 cents, from $2.30 a month to $2.40 a month. Non-residential utility customers who use a credit card to gain access to the gated yard waste and recycling area at the Solid Waste Facility will also see a 10 cent increase, from $3.50 to $3.60 per trip.
