At Tuesday’s meeting of the Walworth County Commission, the commissioners first convened as the Planning and Zoning Board to discuss the plats of the Grahn First Addition and the Moon Second Addition, which were later approved as the Board of Commissioners.
After an executive session regarding a personnel issue, the commissioners approved the abatement of taxes on a tax deed property which is located across from John Deere in Selby.
Highway Department
For the Highway Department the commission discussed a Butler/Cat blade purchase and gave Superintendent Tom Hannan permission to get the blade ordered. The purchase price will be taken out of the 2025 budget. Hannan also invited the commissioners to attend a demo by John Deere RDO on Wednesday morning (12/11/24) at the shop.
Tanner Dryer is a new hire in the Highway Department.
Emergency Manager
The commissioners approved a a new lease from the City of Mobridge for office space for Emergency Manager Jeff Jensen, with a $300 increase in the rent.
Jensen reported that the Pre-Disaster Mitigation plan got approved by FEMA, and will be adopted at a commission meeting in the near future.
Jensen had a few other updates.
Register of Deeds
Walworth County Register of Deeds Brenda DeToy gave the commissioners the November totals for her office.
And for the year…
DeToy also had 2024 totals for liens, including poor-for-burial expenses, and prisoner medical costs, and court-appointed attorneys.
Auditor
For the Auditor’s office, contingency transfers were approved $10,000 for Child Defense and $7,000 for Services and Fees.
County Auditor Kim Dills reported that the County balanced for the month of November.
The year-end Walworth County Commission meeting will be December 31st, and the first meeting in January will be on the 7th.
