South Dakota’s 100th Legislative Session begins January 14, 2025, and Secretary of State Monae Johnson encourages lobbyists to register early using the online Lobbyist Registration System.
Although lobbyists may register at any point during the Legislative Session, Johnson says registering early helps to ensure that the Secretary of State’s Office will have everything ready when the lobbyist arrives in Pierre. She says new lobbyists should register by clicking the “Create New Lobbyist Registration” link. Returning lobbyists should simply sign in and review their registration information.
Johnson says all lobbyists should also provide information about their employer and pay the $40 registration fee, which can be done online using a credit or debit card.
For those who would like to use a paper form to register, the lobbyist registration form and employer authorization form may be found with embedded links or through the Lobbyist Registration System. These forms should be mailed to the Secretary of State’s Office at 500 East Capitol Avenue Suite 204, Pierre, SD 57501 along with the $40.00 registration fee.
If there are any questions about the registration process, please call the Secretary of State’s Office at (605) 773-3537 or send an email to Lobbyist@state.sd.us.
