In the Govs first game at home of the season against the Sturgis Scoopers, they set the bar high in terms of expectations with their performance Friday night. From the opening tip they came out shooting and quickly got out to a 7-2 lead. Lennox DuPris took control of the game and was in double-digits midway through the first half, finishing with 22.
Kierra Killinger for Sturgis was a force to be reckoned with in the paint as she was constantly tracking down both offensive and defensive rebounds.
After taking a 31-16 lead into the half, the Govs continued to play relentless defense. Gracelyn Taylor wound up with 8 steals and was named the Bauman Lumber Player of the Game for her all around performance on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball. Emery Larson also found herself open quite a bit and usually doesn’t miss, hitting three threes and finishing with 14 points. The Govs would cruise to a 65-36 win and improve to 2-1 on the season.
The Govs will host Spearfish this afternoon at 1:30, you can listen to the game live on KGFX or stream it on DRGnews.com.
