Watertown police say a Texas man faces charges for allegedly firing several gunshot rounds in the city following a verbal altercation Thursday night (Dec. 26, 2024).
Police were called to the scene in southeast Watertown just after 10:30p.m.
Witnesses said the person who fired the gunshots fled in a blue pickup. Police quickly located the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop. The suspect, 19 year-old Jayveon Russell of Duncanville, Texas, was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault, Reckless Discharge of a Firearm, Possessing a Loaded Firearm While Intoxicated, and DUI.
A search of the pickup revealed several loaded firearms, nine millimeter ammunition, open alcohol containers and marijuana. Russell was booked into the Codington County Detention Center on a $5,000 cash bond.
The gunshots did not result in any injuries or property damage.
