Jeanette A. Klug, 82 years of Selby, passed away Thursday, December 26th, 2024, at Bowdle Hospital. In accordance with her wishes, services will be held privately. The family appreciates your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
Jeanette (Froelich) Klug was born June 23, 1942, in Mandan, ND, to Michael and Elizabeth (Kraft) Froelich of Selfridge, ND. She attended high school at St. Mary’s at Richardton, ND. She then attended Dickinson State North Dakota, where she met the love of her life, Gene Klug of Bowman, ND, in 1961. They married September 2, 1963, at St. Philomena Catholic Church, Selfridge, ND.
Gene and Jeanette began their life together in Hannaford and Wilton, ND, before moving to Selby, SD, in 1967. In Selby, Jeanette worked as a bookkeeper at the Walworth County Treasurer’s Office and at Great Plains Implement. Her commitment extended into the community, as she also took on the role of a rural bus driver for the Selby School District. Jeanette treasured her time at home with her young children and devoted herself to raising her two daughters.
On June 1st, 1979, Gene and Jeanette purchased the 3B Hardware store in Selby, renaming it Klug’s Hardware. After a fire destroyed the store in 1980, they rebuilt, added the “Rent-A-Center”, and added plumbing, heating, and air conditioning services, transitioning it to Klug’s Plumbing and Heating. Jeanette continued bookkeeping and enjoyed owning and operating alongside Gene until 2001.
Jeanette cherished time with family. From the holidays, where she hosted her growing family, to the memorable decades of camping trips and many rendezvous’ excursions with her husband, friends, and grandchildren, all which evolved into life-long traditions. In later years, she had the wonderful opportunity to babysit her great-grandson Bridger, and dear friend’s daughter, Brielle, embracing the chance to once again make memories and leave her loving footprint on another generation.
Jeanette was a nurturer through and through. She not only cherished her role as a wife, mother, and grandmother, but also found immense joy in nurturing the world around her. Jeanette could make any plant, indoors or out, flourish and exude its natural beauty. She had a true green thumb. Their home was surrounded by meticulously cultivated beds of flowers, shrubs, trees, and plants, her favorite among them were undoubtedly her peonies. She loved gardening, enjoying the process from planting to harvesting and serving fresh foods. Her dedication to canning and preserving the fruits of her labor was a testament to her frugality and resourcefulness, traits that came naturally to her.
Jeanette was a member of the Jaycees, enjoyed bowling, would shoot trap and occasionally hunt alongside Gene. She too, was fiercely competitive and was an excellent marksman. Together, they took advantage of every season, and when the snowy winter arrived, they eagerly took to snowmobiling. Leaving straight from the house to enjoy time together and the exhilaration of the sport.
Gene and Jeanette celebrated 61 years of marriage in 2024. She complemented Gene in every way, sunup to sundown. Through his hobbies, their dreams, and all their adventures and struggles. Known for her stubbornness, she again met her match in Gene, and together this was the heart of their strength and perfection in all they did. Jeanette had an unmatched work ethic and embraced life with energy for all tasks that needed to get done. She’d never allow a moment for laziness. She could always find something to do, or find something for Gene to do.
Jeanette held steadfast to her traditional values and homemaking responsibilities throughout her entire life. She was most proud of these roles, and each brought happiness to her heart. Jeanette will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Jeanette is survived by her daughters, Vickie (Steve) VanderMay of LongValley, SD, and Janine (Kent Wolforth) Arbach of Selby; her grandchildren: Colleen (Austin) Konold, Val (Nathan Byrne) Dimond, Trent (Jennifer) VanderMay, Todd VanderMay, Tel (Jenna) VanderMay, Tate (Osprey Vetter) Arbach, and Cody Arbach; Nine great-grandchildren; her brother-in-law, Ed Shimmin, her brother-in-law, Dan Laintz, and many nieces and nephews.
