The South Dakota Secretary of State’s Office has released the 2024 Q3 South Dakota Economic Report, produced through a collaborative effort with Dr. Tracy Dice’s Principles of Microeconomics class at Dakota Wesleyan University.
Although the South Dakota Economic Report was originally released in 2011, it ceased publication in 2019. In an effort to “offer insights into the economic landscape of South Dakota,” Secretary Monae Johnson partnered with Dakota Wesleyan University to make this economic data available to the public once again. As a result of this effort, Johnson oversaw the release of the 2024 Q1 South Dakota Economic Report in May 2024. Following in the footsteps of that report, the 2024 Q3 South Dakota Economic Report is the second of many forthcoming reports that will provide the people of South Dakota with regular updates on the state’s economic health.
“As the custodian of all business entity filings, the Secretary of State’s Office plays a crucial role in deciphering the state’s economic pulse,” Johnson said. By making extensive use of data provided by the Secretary of State’s Office, particularly business filings, Dr. Tracy Dice and her students were able to analyze important economic trends and observe the “resilience and adaptability of South Dakota’s entrepreneurial spirit.” The 2024 Q3 South Dakota Economic Report also highlights recent economic growth in Mitchell and demonstrates the continued importance of agriculture as “the backbone of South Dakota’s economy.”
Secretary Johnson invites everyone to read the 66-page 2024 Q3 South Dakota Economic Report, which can be found on the Secretary of State’s website at https://sdsos.gov/general-information/publications/default.aspx.
