Escaped state prison offender in South Dakota dies in Nebraska

A South Dakota state prison offender on escape status has died.

Jeremiah Stands, age 39, passed away in Valentine, NE, on January 3, 2025.

Stands was placed on escape status after he failed to return to the Rapid City Minimum Center following a work release job search on July 27, 2017.

Stands was originally sentenced to five years in prison for fourth-offense DUI out of Tripp County.
