Two projects at Burke are included in the latest round of recipients in South Dakota getting dollars from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to expand access to clean energy and increase availability of domestic biofuels.
USDA Rural Development State Director for South Dakota Nikki Gronli says a total of 17 projects are sharing more than $2.65 million from the Rural Energy for America Program and the Higher Blends Infrastructure Incentive Program.

Burke Livestock Auction Inc. in Burke will receive $11,191 to install a more efficient HVAC system. This project is expected to save $2,665 in costs and 26,062 kilowatt hours of electricity per year, which is enough energy to power two homes.

L Two Lodging LLC will receive $19,103 to install more energy-efficient doors at a small motel located near Burke. The energy-efficient improvement is expected to save the company $1,642 a year in energy costs and replace 20,520 kilowatt hours of electricity per year, which is enough energy to power one house.
