South Dakota Governor Larry Rhoden has signed a bill that will partially fund the horse races in Fort Pierre in October.
Shane Kramme is with the Verendreye Benevolent Association, the organization that manages the races each year. He said $60,000 is being moved to an account that makes it easier to access to pay for race expenses.
Kramme says eight horses competed in the South Dakota bred races in Fort Pierre last year.
Kramme says there are a lot of expenses when putting on the two days of horse racing.
The horse races will be held Oct. 4-5, 2025, at the Stanley County Fairgrounds in Fort Pierre. Fort Pierre is the last location left in South Dakota that still hosts horse racing events.
