At the Wednesday (March 12th) meeting of the Mobridge City Council, Jesse Konold of Key Insurance/Bridgemark Insurance Solutions presented the council with a quote of $750,000 coverage for cyber insurance at a yearly cost of $5,199. Council member Jade Mound said providing the City protection against hacking scams would be beneficial.
Council approved the quote to purchase cyber insurance for the city.
New Business
Council approved the proposal and funding for a new 36-foot scoreboard at Legion Field. Mobridge City Finance Officer Heather Beck said the Hagar Foundation is donating $45,000.00 toward the project.
Beck said this project is not in the 2025 city budget, but she gave the council her plan to move forward with it.
Police Department
Council approved two new hires in the Police Department – police officer Kyle Brown and dispatcher Amanda Perez.
Zoning
Dave Haefner addressed the council to appeal four conditional use permit denials from the Zoning Board on properties he owns. Council approved two of the appeals, but denied the other two.
Water & Sewer
For the Water and Sewer Department, Council approved –
- a quote of $27,723.75 for pump replacement for the lift station;
- pay request number 1 to Muth Electric in the amount of $19,859.40 for materials and bonding for the water treatment plant;
- change order number 8 increasing the water treatment project by $7,153.08;
- and task order number 3 with Moore Engineering for the wastewater treatment project to start the designing process and continue through bidding.
Finance
Public notices were held and approvals given by Council for the transfer of liquor licenses for Buche Foods and for the Wrangler.
The bid from Jensen Rock & Sand for street chip seal work this year was approved.
Council passed a motion to approve the revision in the office lease agreement with Walworth County. Mayor Gene Cox talked about the revision.
That lease agreement will now go to the Walworth County Commission for approval.
Council approved the appointment of Katie Zerr to the library board for a one-year term.

Finance Officer Beck talked about payouts of accrued vacation leave for departments that are currently short-staffed.

Also at the meeting Wednesday night, Council approved the 2025 Mobridge pool staff roster, which includes 21 employees.
The first reading of an ordinance revision regarding Airbnbs, also called short-term rentals, was approved. Council member Amy Cerney talked about the ordinance from her perspective.
