Construction work has begun (March 17, 2025) on S.D. Highway 73 from Kadoka, going south for eight miles. The project includes grading, structure replacement, interim surfacing and lighting.
The first step is removal of asphalt surfacing on the south end of the project. Motorists should expect delays and adjust speeds when driving on dirt surfaces within the work zone. During adverse weather, the driving surface may quickly become impassable. During those times, Highway 73 may be temporarily closed until the surface is dry enough to carry traffic.
The overall completion date for the $25.5 million project is June 2026.
