April 24, 2025:
A 21 year old Rapid City man died in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 90 Monday afternoon (April 21, 2025, at 1:36pm), 10 miles east of Wall, SD.
Preliminary crash information indicates Tage Harold Tyler, the driver of a 2009 Ford Focus, was traveling eastbound on Interstate 90 near mile marker 121 and in the process of passing a 2002 GMC Sierra driven by 60 year old Hartley Jerome Hertel from Sioux Falls. As the Ford was changing lanes back to the driving lane, it came in contact with the front bumper of the GMC and began traveling sideways and both vehicles left the roadway and entered the south ditch. The Ford began to rollover, ejecting Tyler from the vehicle.
Tyler died from his injuries. Hertel and three passengers in the GMC– ages 59, 12 and 8)– were not injured.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
The Highway Patrol is an agency of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
April 22, 2025:

The names of the persons involved have not been released pending notification of family members.
Preliminary crash information indicates the driver of a 2009 Ford Focus was traveling eastbound on Interstate 90 near mile marker 121 and in the process of passing a 2002 GMC Sierra. The driver of the Ford died from his injuries. The 60 year old male driver of the GMC, as well as his passengers– ages 59, 12 and 8– in the GMC were not injured. All four are from Sioux Falls.
