SIOUX FALLS – Another Division I men’s college basketball game has been scheduled for the Sanford Pentagon. Northern Iowa will meet New Mexico State on December 13.
A press release said that this matchup had been in the works before the pandemic and that officials will be prepared to adjust as needed, depending on guidelines and safety measures.
In that statement, president of Sanford Sports Steve Young said, Northern Iowa and New Mexico State are coming off incredible seasons with many of their core players returning, which makes for a great matchup. We are excited to add another Division I game to our schedule and provide these two teams with a safe environment to compete while battling for an important non-conference win on a neutral court.”
Northern Iowa won the regular season title last season in the Missouri Valley before being knocked out in the quarterfinals of the conference tournament. New Mexico State was perfect in WAC regular season play at 16-0 and ended the season with 19 straight wins and a 25-6 record. The conference tournament was cancelled because of the pandemic.
