MANDAN, ND – Post 8 split a doubleheader Wednesday in Mandan, losing a wild first game 16-15 in eight innings before taking the nightcap 7-4.
Mandan scored eight first-inning runs in the opener, but Post 8 scored three in the second and five runs to tie the game in the third. Mandan later led 15-10 before the Eights tied the game with five runs in the seventh. Isaac Huettl won the game for Mandan with an RBI single in the eighth. For Post 8, Andrew Coverdale had four hits and two RBI. Andy Gordon, River Iverson, Lincoln Kienholz and Jack Van Camp also drove in two runs each.
In the second game, Bennett Dean was the offensive star for Post 8. He drove in four runs with two two-run singles and stole home. Justin Houlette pitched six innings for the win and Matt Lusk worked the seventh for the save.
Post 8 is 25-16. Through Tuesday, they stood fourth in the seeding points standings. Their final two games of the regular season will be against Spearfish on Senior Day Friday at Hyde Stadium in a 5:00 PM doubleheader. Regional tournament play will begin Monday.
