PIERRE – In reaching the halfway point of the regular season, the Pierre Trappers suffered another tough loss Wednesday. They couldn’t hold a 5-1 lead and fell 6-5 to the Western Nebraska Pioneers at Hyde Stadium.
Nick Grossman hit a first-inning homer and Billy Moreland had three RBI as the Trappers built their four-run lead through four innings. But, Western Nebraska tied the game with three runs in the sixth and scored the two go-ahead runs in the eighth, both on hit batsmen by former Pierre Governor Peyton Zabel, who took the loss in relief. Starter Jackson Back gave up four runs and four hits in five and a third innings. In the bottom of the ninth, the Trappers had the tying run on third and winning run on first, but Cooper McMurray struck out to end the game.
Pierre has now won 11 and lost 15 and will host Western Nebraska Thursday night at Hyde Stadium at 7:05.
