On the longest and hottest day of the year in South Dakota, cowboys and cowgirls from around the state competed in the second full day of rodeo performances at the Stanley County Fairgrounds. Many trying to still qualify for the National Rodeo Finals in Rock Springs, Wyoming, and some who have already qualified for Nationals trying to continue their great week of work on the grounds.
It was the second day in a row we were treated to two rodeo performances, one in the morning and one in the evening, and these top-tier athletes did not disappoint. From Pierre, Makenzee Wheelhouse retained the top spot in goat tying with 15.00 points in her 2nd GO and leads by one point with 57.00. Ryen Sheppick from Pierre also finished her reigned cow horse competition earlier this week in first place with 90.00 total points, nearly 14 points ahead of second place, one of the few events she will be competing in at Nationals. Gabriyelle Irving of Pierre currently sits in eighth on the barrel racing leaderboard with 37.00 points
From Highmore, Talon Ping sits fourth in bareback riding with 43.50 total points, Taos Weborg of Gregory dominating the event with a 71.0 in the 1st GO and 60.0 in the 2nd GO to earning Weborg 57.00 total points which places a 13 point buffer between himself and second place. Weborg was also only one of six contestants to score in bull riding in the 2nd GO as Taos sits in a tie for first with Lawrence Wynn of White Horse.
From Mobridge, Arrow Anderberg shot towards the top of the leaderboard after earning 13.00 points in bareback riding and holding 44.50 total points.
Miller’s Jack Saienga also had a nice showing in the tiedown competition as he sits in a three-way tie for third with 34.00 total points.
