Increasing awareness and access to treatment for substance abuse and addiction has been a priority in farm country since before the COVID-19 pandemic began.
And now, White House Office of National Drug Control Policy Director Jim Carroll says rural America needs even more focus on addiction.
To achieve that, Carroll traveled to rural areas to hear from local stakeholders and address their needs.
Carroll says they also changed the number of treatments allowed to be taken at home, and classified treatment centers as healthcare centers, to allow them to get necessary personal protective equipment. They also allowed doctors to cross state lines to treat patients in rural areas.
Carroll says the focus now is on which actions the Administration has made, should be permanent.
The White House has launched the Rural Community Toolbox online to provide additional resources to Rural America.
Carroll says the first step to getting help for individuals is available online as well.
