South Dakota’s top law enforcer is thanking state legislators and Governor Larry Rhoden for passing and signing a bill on Tuesday (Sept. 23, 2025) that approved the building of a new men’s prison in northeast Sioux Falls.
Attorney General Marty Jackley said the need for a new, nearly 1500 bed men’s prison has never been about increasing incarceration. He said it’s “about keeping people safe, safeguarding the taxpayers’ money and providing inmates hope for the future with rehabilitation efforts and addiction treatment.”
