If you’ve been spending time outdoors in South Dakota recently, you’ve most likely encountered some biting insects that made your experience a little less enjoyable.
SDSU Extension Urban Entomology Field Specialist Dr. Amanda Bachmann says mosquitoes are still active.
Bachmann says West Nile virus is still something to be concerned about as well.
Other possibilities for the nuisance bugs that might be biting you are Multicolored Asian lady beetles or Minute pirate bugs. With harvest underway in some parts of South Dakota, Bachmann says they’re looking for something– anything– to eat.
Bachmann says once we get the first hard frost, most of the pesky insect activity will stop…. until Spring.
