MITCHELL – Though many things have changed from 2019 to 2020, South Dakota’s amateur baseball champions have not. The Sioux Falls Brewers won their second straight Class A championship and Alexandria repeated as Class B champions with title-game wins Sunday at Cadwell Park.
In Class A, the Brewers defeated Brookings 7-2. Pitcher Bryce Ahrendt, who was named the tournament MVP, pitched a complete game, allowing two runs and 10 hits, striking out four. Jose Martinez was 2-for-3 with three RBI. The Brewers turned three double plays.
Alexandria knocked off Canova for the Class B title, 11-3. This is the Angels’ fifth state championship, all since 2013. Jed Schmidt pitched a complete-game six-hitter with 10 strikeouts and was named co-MVP of the tournament with Cole Wenande. John Greciar was 4-of-5 with six RBI.
