A coalition of 19 republican attorneys general– including South Dakota’s Marty Jackley– want the U.S. Senate’s Democratic Party Leader to provide stopgap funding for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program if the federal government isn’t back open by Nov. 1, 2025.
In their letter to New York Senator Chuck Schumer, the attorneys general said, “There are over 41.7 million Americans who depend on SNAP for sustenance. Included in that number are nearly 15.6 million people from the 19 states whose Attorneys General have signed on to this letter and implore you to leave the politicking for another day.”
Along with South Dakota, attorneys general from the following states have signed the letter to Schumer: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Texas, Utah, Virginia and West Virginia.
For South Dakota, SNAP funds are sent out on the 10th of each month, giving the state more time for Republican and Democrat Party Leaders to reach a deal on health insurance premiums and getting the government back open.
