Landmarks across South Dakota are lighting up teal today (Nov. 3, 2025) to raise awareness as part of the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America’s Light the World in Teal program.
The annual program, held in November as part of Alzheimer’s Awareness Month, aims to literally shine a spotlight on Alzheimer’s disease and show support for the millions of people affected by it. Teal is AFA’s Alzheimer’s awareness color.
Participating South Dakota landmarks include:
-
The World’s Only Corn Palace (Mitchell)
-
Arc of Dreams (Sioux Falls)
-
Main Street Square (Rapid City)
-
Falls Park (Sioux Falls)
-
Walnut Street (Yankton)
The South Dakota landmarks are among more than 1,500 sites in all 50 states and 13 other countries/territories “going teal” for Alzheimer’s awareness on Nov. 3.
Nearly 7 million Americans, including more than 16,000 South Dakotans, are currently living with Alzheimer’s disease. The number of people with Alzheimer’s is projected to double by 2060, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Light the World in Teal 2025 is the world’s largest-ever organized collective light-up for a single cause.
This is the 12th year of AFA’s Light the World in Teal campaign.
