Dec. 15, 2025:
Three people were injured, one fatally, in a two-vehicle crash Thursday morning (Dec. 11, 2025, 6:51am) 13 miles west of Rapid City.
Preliminary crash information indicates 52 year old Willard D. Howard, Jr. of Rapid City, the driver of a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado, was traveling westbound on Sheridan Lake Road, near the intersection with Boulder Hill Road. While traveling down a long icy hill, the Chevrolet crossed the center line and collided head-on with an eastbound 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee, driven by 29 year old Allison K. Henderson of Rapid City.
Howard sustained serious, non-life-threatening injuries. 51 year old Margo Lea Howard from Lambert, MT, a passenger in the truck, received fatal injuries. Neither were wearing seat belts. Henderson sustained minor injuries.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. All information released so far is only preliminary.
The Highway Patrol is an agency of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.

The names of the persons involved have not been released pending notification of family members.
Preliminary crash information indicates the driver of a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling westbound on Sheridan Lake Road, near the intersection with Boulder Hill Road. While traveling down a long icy hill, the Chevrolet crossed the center line and collided head-on with an eastbound 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
The driver of the Chevrolet–a 52 year old male from Rapid City– sustained serious, non-life-threatening injuries. A passenger– a 51 year old female from Lambert, MT,– received fatal injuries. Neither were wearing seat belts. The driver of the Jeep– a 29 year old female from Rapid City– sustained minor injuries.
