FT. PIERRE, SD -Michael Lynn McQuistion, age 57, affectionately known as Mike by his loved ones and friends, passed away on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, surrounded by his family and loved ones at Avera St. Mary’s Hospital in Pierre, South Dakota.
Visitation will be from 5-7pm with a 7pm prayer service on Monday, February 23, 2026, at the Pat Duffy Community Center in Fort Pierre. Funeral service will be 11:00am on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at the same location. Isburg Funeral Chapel has been placed in care of the arrangements.
Born on November 15, 1968, in Little Falls, MN. Mike moved to Fort Pierre in 1970 and was a lifelong resident of Stanley County and Fort Pierre, South Dakota. He proudly carried on the family tradition as a fifth-generation rancher on their family ranch in Northwest Stanley County.
A graduate of Stanley County High School, Mike devoted his life to the land and the community he loved. Known for his deep passion for sports, he was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys and enjoyed sharing his love for baseball through a fantasy baseball with his son, Zach. Mikes’s interest in history enriched his conversations and made him a cherished company among peers.
Mike is survied by his significant other, Becky Hurst; his son, Zach McQuistion; daughter, Ally McQuistion (fiancé Alejandro Cortina); bonus son Aven Angyal; bonus grandsons Daxton, Hayze and Daycen Sach; sisters, Kris (Nick) Moreland and Lynn (Richard) Siedschlaw; and his parents, Larry and Barb McQuistion. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Robert and Donna O’Day; paternal grandparents, J. Clinton and Esther McQuistion; and several aunts and uncles, including John, Gary, and Kristine McQuistion, and Ken and Jim O’Day.
Mikes’s legacy is marked by his dedication to his family and friends, his work, and his community. He sat on many boards, some of which were Basin Electric Co-op from 2013 to the present, Rushmore Electric Co-op from 2010 until March of 2025 and West Central Electric Co-op since October of 1996. His presence will be deeply missed, yet his influence will continue to be felt by all who knew him.
