MITCHELL, S.D. — Aberdeen Central won five weight classes and outdistanced Pierre at the Region 3 Girls Wrestling meet Friday night at Mitchell High School. The Golden Eagles amassed 228.0 points to 193.0 for the Govs to take the title. Bon Homme/Scotland/Avon took third place with 161.5 points. The Governors placed ten wrestlers in the top four of their respective weight classes, each of which will advance to the State Individual Tournament beginning Thursday in Sioux Falls. Lexie Hillmer was crowned the champion in the 135-pound weight class, while Shaylee Speck, Sydney Caven, Kezrey Benning and Abbi Lewis each claimed runner-up finishes. Lewis, the state’s top-rated wrestler at 155 pounds, conceded her championship match by declaring a medical forfeit, but will be looking for her third straight state title next weekend. Among other Central South Dakota teams, Miller/Highmore-Harrold placed sixth with 101.0 points and advanced six wrestlers to State. Todd County/White River rang up 74.0 points, including a 235-pound championship for Unique Clairmont and will have four wrestlers competing next weekend. Chamberlain placed two wrestlers in the top four of their weight classes and Lyman advances one wrestler as well.
In action from other Region Tournaments Friday, Sully Buttes tied for fifth in Region 1 with 79.0 points, led by Cateri Yellow Hawk and Cheyenne Fuller, who won the 130 and 145-pound classes respectively. The Chargers advance four to the State Meet. And out of Region 4, Stanley County advanced three wrestlers to State and Mobridge-Pollock one.
