After a thrilling win to get into the region tournament Monday night, Mitchell Christian would face an even tougher test on the road Tuesday against the #1-seed Lyman Raiders in Class B Region 5. Lyman comes into bracket play with state championship aspirations, and they started off in strong fashion with a 65-29 over the Golden Eagles.
Dawsen Volmer started the game with three made threes as Lyman built an early double-digit lead. As good as the Raiders offense was, their defense was their strongest facet as they forced continuous steals throughout the opening quarter. After leading 26-8, they did not let up extending their lead 36 at the halftime break.
With a running clock, the Golden Eagles could not surmount the deficit, although their shooting did pick up as Luke Mentele knocked down a pair of threes and sophomore Brady Asbenson led Mitchell Christian with 16.
Volmer led both teams with 19 points in a variety of different ways knocking down triples, hitting free throws and commanding the post.
Lyman will advance to take on Corsica-Stickney, who edged out Gregory with a 42-41 win. The two will clash in the Corn Palace on Friday night.
