One of the most successful programs in central South Dakota belongs to the Lyman Raiders who now have both girls and boys teams poised to play for a state tournament title. The Lyman girls secured their spot last week with their victory over McIntosh and are now joined by the Raider boys who punched their ticket with a dominant victory over Leola/Frederick Area in the SoDak 16 Tuesday night.
Lyman jumped out to a one-possession, 14-11 lead after one quarter, and built on that lead in the second quarter taking a 7 point lead into the half. The Raiders had two players score in double-digits in the first half as Dawsen Volmer finished with 10 while MJ Diehm scored 13.
In the second half, Lyman continued their great play outscoring the Titans by four again and heading to the final quarter leading by 11. The Titans made a strong push in the fourth quarter, but the Raiders lead would prove to be too much as they went on to secure the win and their state-title berth with a 59-46 win.
The Raiders were led by Diehm who finished the game with 22 followed by Volmer who finished with 16. For the Titans, they were led by Milo Sumption who scored 13. The Titans season comes to an end with a very impressive record of 17-6.
The Raiders enter the Class B State Tournament as the 8-seed and will play Viborg Hurley next Thursday at 11:00 AM CT on KPLO.
