PIERRE – The South Dakota High School Activities Association has formed a committee to establish guidelines and procedures for safety for fall sports and activities. The 20-person task force includes high school administrators, including Pierre Athletic Director Brian Moser, SDHSAA board members and staff, medical representatives and state office representatives. This task force is set to meet for the first time on Monday, with several meetings planned over the next few weeks. SDHSAA executive director Dan Swartos said that the plan is to have a proposal for the SDHSAA Board of Governors by July 20.
This committee will have a large task in trying to determine whether it is safe to return to sports and activities and how to incorporate flexibility in case circumstances change because of another COVID-19 outbreak.
Moser said that it is tough to figure what contingencies would be if COVID-19 cases flare up again.
Have Moser and other administrators learned a lot from what has happened during the pandemic?
