South Dakota Governor Larry Rhoden signed (March 11, 2026) the cell-cultured protein compromise, Senate Bill 124.
“A good process makes for good government, and SB 124 is proof of that,” said Rhoden. “By talking to producers, legislators, and other stakeholders, we worked together to chart a strong path forward. We will continue to prioritize open dialogue and commonsense solutions that deliver results for South Dakotans.”
Rhoden previously charted a compromise on this matter, bringing together ag groups, legislators, and stakeholders on both sides of the issue.
The Governor signed SB 124 at a signing ceremony.
