Coyote Flats Fire

Current Situation: Overnight firefighters continued mop up operations within the perimeter of the fire line. Mop up includes identifying hot spots within the fire perimeter and extinguishing them. Overnight hot spots were mostly stump holes and heavy fuels like large limbs and logs. There were no impactful changes to the fire line overnight.
This morning the Coyote Flats Fire remains at ~385 acres and 50% contained. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Objectives today include securing the fire perimeter, mopping up around structures, and along Neck Yoke Road, and being prepared to respond to potential new incidents as today is another critical fire weather day. Federal, state, and local resources including personnel and equipment are working together to meet those objectives.
Air attack is available and on standby if needed.
The general public is encouraged to stay out of the fire area so that firefighting resources can continue to safely continue their work. Pending significant fire activity, this will be the final daily update for the Coyote Flats Fire.
Weather: A Red Flag Warning remains in effect until 9:00 pm. Critical fire weather will develop this afternoon with high temperatures close to 80 degrees and relative humidity dropping to around 14 percent. Winds on ridgetops are expected to gust to 25 mph. RH recovery tonight into Saturday will be very poor reaching only around 32 percent.
Saturday’s (March 21, 2026) forecast calls for even warmer temps in the mid to upper 80’s with humidities dropping as low as 10%.
Temporary Flight Restrictions: There is a Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) over the perimeter of the Coyote Flats Fire. Please do not fly any unauthorized aircraft over the fire. If you fly, we can’t.
