PIERRE – Marlee Shorter of girls tennis and Nathan Leiferman of boys soccer are the latest Pierre Athletic Coaches Association-Avera Athletes of The Week.
Shorter is the #3 singles player for Pierre. Head coach Jessica Carr called Shorter “an extremely valuable athlete.”
Carr also said of Shorter, “She possesses a tenacious attitude that makes her a relentless competitor. She is often harder on herself as an athlete than any coach, analyzing each and every point and what she can do to improve her game. What her coaches appreciate most about Marlee is her dedication and work ethic.”
On September 17 against Mitchell, Leiferman scored all four goals in Pierre’s 4-0 win. Governor boys soccer head coach Matthew Deboer had this praise of Leiferman, “Nathan has been, in many games, our focal point, as well as the engine that gets us going offensively. He not only has been able to find the back of the net a team leading 9 times this year, but he also starts our defense from the forward position. Nathan uses his speed, energy, and high work rate to make opposing defenders uncomfortable which results in them turning it over and quick counter attacks for our team.”
