The Walworth County Commission received letters from county employees after Walworth County Register of Deeds Brenda DeToy requested wage increases in her office. The letters were not shared during the commission’s regular meeting on Wednesday, August 19th, but DeToy did present her case to the board. Commissioner Duane Mohr made a motion to give department heads a three percent raise plus one dollar and all other employees a one dollar wage with no percentage. Mohr’s motion, which includes an wage increase for the Sheriff.
The motion passed; Commissioner Justin Jungwirth abstained.
Public Forum
Mike Nehls read a statement in support of the Walworth County Commissioners and Commissioner Jim Houck in response to a “letter to the editor” that was published in the August 12th Mobridge Tribune. This is a portion of the statement read by Mr. Nehls.
Emergency Manager
Walworth County Emergency Manager Jeff Jensen mentioned the recent fire at Homestead Building Supplies in Mobridge.
Jensen also told the commissioners that his department’s drone P.A. system was used to assist in the Dewey County boater rescue when cell phone batteries had died.
The board approved signing documents for both the South Dakota Office of Emergency Management Compliance with Foreign National Vetting Requirements, and the Local Emergency Management Program Grant Contract to continue with the State and Homeland Security FEMA.
Auditor
Walworth County Auditor Kim Dills said the books balanced in July.
Landfill
Commissioner Duane Mohr gave the board the latest report from the Landfill.
Also at the meeting, budget discussion continued, and Lorenda Long visited with the commissioners about supplemental insurance coverage for county employees through Family Heritage.
The next Walworth County Commission meeting will be Wednesday, September 2nd.
