The Huron Tiger Boys came into Tuesday’s matchup against Pierre carrying some momentum off their last two matches. They won by five over Douglas and took Spearfish to the brink before losing 1-0. The Govs, who were still in search of their first win of the year, knew they would be competing against a fast and physical team. The Govs were also looking to get a monkey off their back, looking for their first goal of the season.
The first goal came at long last when Caiden Ahartz calmly finished a gorgeous pass from Evertt Norton that would put Pierre up 1-0 going into the half.
In the start of the second, Huron earned a questionable goal after Aiden Maung blocked out Gov goalkeeper Carter Templeton allowing the Tigers to tie. Mister Min would quickly follow that up with a dazzling go-ahead goal to put Huron up 2-1.
It looked like Huron was going to pick up the win and drop Pierre back to 0-3-1, but Ahartz and Jacoby LaRoche teamed up for a huge equalizer in the last few minutes to draw 2-2 with the Tigers. The Govs move to 0-2-2.
The Governor Girls won by mercy rule in their contest (10-0). Brittany Sargent scored two quick goals out of the gate to put Pierre up 2-0, then Devyn Van Roekel intercepted a pass and did the rest herself scoring a gorgeous goal to make it 3-0 going into the half.
The Govs poured it on in the second half, which saw Cameron Larson score a hat-trick and earn an assist, earning her Player of the Game honors. Aubrey Fischer and Myah Fravel got in on the seven-goal second half fun as the Govs cruised to the 10-0 and the 4-0-0 record.
The Govs will host Mitchell next Tuesday at PILC for a doubleheader on River 92.7, coverage beginning at 3:30 PM CT.
