At their regular meeting on Wednesday, November 4th, the Walworth County Commissioners discussed complaints that were voiced by some residents regarding the change in location of the Mobridge voting center for the General Election. There were four voting centers in Walworth County for this election – the community centers in Akaska, Java, and Selby, and the Edge Event Center in Mobridge. Commission Chairman Randy Carlson said people were disappointed in not being able to vote at the Scherr-Howe Event Center in downtown Mobridge.
Walworth County Auditor Kim Dills said the poll workers at the Edge Event Center were pleased with the location. Dills also stated that Akaska did not charge the County a fee for the use of their facility, Java charged $25.00, and Selby $250.00.
Commissioner Scott Schilling said the County has been generous with the City of Mobridge.
Auditor Dills said there was plenty of notice about the voting centers prior to the election.
Also at Wednesday’s meeting:
The commissioners canvassed the votes from the November 3rd General Election. Auditor Dills said voter turnout was positive.
The commissioners approved the Amended Resolution 2026-06 to adopt the Annual Budget. The amendment was due to a discrepancy in a levy.
Deputy Register of Deeds Sydney Schick gave the commissioners the monthly report from that office.
The board gave approval for the Auditor’s Office to pay vouchers weekly, and they granted the day after Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve Day as holidays for the Courthouse, as State Offices will also be closed those two days.
