Lyman went late into the night on Thursday hoping to knock off Corsica-Stickney and punch their ticket to the SoDak 16, and it took a grueling five sets to complete the task. After the match prior went the distance, the Lyman and Corsica-Stickney match did not get underway until true primetime, and it did not disappoint in that spot.
The first set of the match was true foreshadowing of how the entirety of the night would go with the Jaguars winning a back and forth 26-24 frame.
Lyman would quickly bounce back and gain control with a 25-18 set two win, followed by another close set in the third that was claimed by Lyman 25-21.
Facing elimination, the Jaguars were able to hold off the Raiders in the fourth set winning 25-22, setting up a decisive fifth and final set. The fifth would stay tight and tied for a majority with both teams trading points. Lyman would create a little cushion late and go on to win the set 15-12 and the match in five.
Corsica-Stickney was led by Hadynn Johnson who tallied three aces and 17 total kills. For Lyman, their strength up front came through with Jordyn Scott totaling over 15 kills, five blocks and an ace. Kenzie Wagner also finished the night with double-digit kills as did Clarie Griffith and Brooke Montgomery. All of whom are either juniors or seniors that led the youth to the SoDak.
Lyman will draw Wagner in the bracket of 16 which will take place in Huron Tuesday, times still TBD. Stay tuned for updates on the match!
