PIERRE – Maguire Raske ran for three touchdowns and caught two of Lincoln Kienholz’s three touchdown passes Friday as Pierre ran past Mitchell 48-20 in a homecoming win at Hollister Field.
Raske rushed for a career-high 217 yards on 25 carries, scoring on a 16-yard run in the first quarter, a nine-yard run in the third quarter and another nine-yard run in the fourth quarter. It was Raske’s second 200-yard rushing game, with the other having been last season against Tea Area. Raske also clinched his second consecutive 1,000-yard rushing season, having now rushed for 1,169 this year after 1,043 in 2019. He now has 22 rushing touchdowns this season and 53 for his career.
Kienholz had a steady game passing, completing 11-of-20 for 194 yards. The other touchdown pass was to Regan Bollweg. Kienholz also ran 11 times for 113 yards.
After Mitchell (3-5) scored first on a 37-yard keeper by Tucker Vilhauer in the first quarter, the Governors scored on their next five possessions. Bollweg scored another touchdown in the fourth quarter on a 48-yard interception return after Preston Taylor deflected a Vilhauer pass. Kienholz had another interception.
Gunnar Gehring led Pierre (5-2) with 10 tackles. Gary Nedved had the Governors’ only sack.
Governor head coach Steve Steele said that Pierre’s defense recovered after Mitchell scored first.
Steele said that the Governor defense played steadily.
Steele said that Kienholz played well at quarterback.
Steele credited Kienholz for one particular play.
Steele said that Cord Ellis led Pierre’s good defense.
Steele was asked how Pierre is approaching the final regular season game with Douglas.
