Yesterday two more state football champions where named in South Dakota as what some predicted to be an offensive highlight show turned into being a defensive struggle for both Winner and Bridgewater Emery Ethan. In the first quarter there was no scoring allowed by either team. At halftime it was Winner 12 Bridgewater Emery Ethan 7, I was thinking to my self if this was the same team that I saw only a week earlier. Bridgewater Emery Ethan would score again and that would be it. Winner score twice more and could not put a two point conversion in at all and the final score would be Winner 18 and Bridgewater Emery Ethan 14. The Governors from Pierre TF Riggs high school can put the fourth consecutive state championship trophy in their case. Last TF Riggs scored early and often over the Brookings Bobcats. After one it was only 7 to 6 Governors. The Governors would come out in the second quarter and put three more touchdowns together and go into the locker room with a 28 to 6 lead. The Governors would put ten more points on the board and end up winning by a score of 38 to 6. Two more state champions will be crowned today as Harrisburg and Brandon Valley go at it in class 11AAA and Canton and Tea Area will compete for the class 11A title.
