PIERRE – Wrestling season will open for the Pierre Governors this weekend with a meet at Clark/Willow Lake, and there will be something new. Girls will compete for the first time under the sanction of the South Dakota High School Activities Association.
Governor Head Coach Shawn Lewis said that Saturday should bring quite an experience.
Lewis was asked how many girls are wrestling, counting 6th grade and up.

The Governor boys finished fourth at the 2020 state tournament after six championships and two runner-up finishes in the previous eight seasons. Lewis was asked what the team’s mindset is before this season.
Lewis said that he is looking for steady improvement.

JV boys will wrestle at Saturday’s Clark/Willow Lake tournament. The first varsity event for the Governor boys will be at the Rapid City Invitational on December 11 & 12.
