Darius was born on May 8, 1992 to Randez Bailey and Edsel Fasthorse at St. Alexius Hospital. He was raised in Long Soldier District attened daycare in which he received a nick name of “Smooches” whom his auntie Marilee and Margret still called him. Darius attended school at Standing Rock Community School where he graduated on May 2011. Darius was a wrestler in High School and was coached by Mr. Rowe, (who was a SD State Champion is his day). He also enjoyed being in the band and was taught by Ms. Cournoyer. In his Junior year, he was crowned Prom King. After High School, he attended Bismarck State College for one year. From there he started to work as a cook/waiter in several places: Dennys, Toasted Frog, The Buttercup, University of Mary, Laughing Sun, and the Walrus.
On March 19, 2018, he became a proud Daddy to Delilah R Fasthorse. His daughter was the light of his life. Through the many struggles Darius encounter, it was never a doubt, the bond and love he shared with his baby girl. Delilah expresses in ways that only her and her daddy understood. It was their code talk and it was sacred between father and daughter.
It was around 2004 when Darius started participating in the Thasunka Wakan (Medicine Horse) Wiwanyang Wacipi in Crow Agency, Montana to pray with his adopted Medicine Horse family. His Grandpa Don and Grandma Darlene started teaching Darius, Frankie, Deej and Spud the Crow and Lakota ways of life. Darius danced there for four years. He was an adopted member to the Medicine Horse family and he was proud to be a part of their family. He spoke of the memories he had with them and you could see and hear the love he had for the family. Darius loved to hunt and fish with his father Edsel. Those moments were precious to him because that was where the father and son bonded with many stories, laughs, secrets and life’s advice. Darius had a special bond with his brother Rhett, they too had secrets that was only shared between brothers. And then there’s bossy sister Letise, but the boys always knew they could depend on their sister to help them with anything. Of course, Darius would say, “don’t tell Letise, she’ll get mad”. That was the love shared between brothers and sisters. That’s what made momma, Randez, proud of her children. Although, she’ll never know the secrets, she respected what they shared. Always the love shared between grandson and grandma is precious, he had the upmost respect and love for his Grandma Junie. As well as the time he had with Grandpa Henry and Grandma E.
