PIERRE – Pierre Governor girls basketball is set to begin a new season with a new head coach. Kirk Beebout takes over after having spent 12 seasons as the boys head coach at Hamlin. He replaces Scott DeBoer, who resigned earlier this year before moving with his wife to Watertown.
Beebout was pleased that there was a little more time than usual to prepare.
Beebout said that the Governors are responding well to his system.
Beebout stressed that one element of recent Pierre teams will remain as it was.
Beebout was asked how the Governors’ offense may change.
Beebout said that he will run the offense that he is used to running.
According to Beebout, fast breaks on offense must be aggressive, but still be done carefully.
Beebout pointed out two areas where the Governors’ offense must improve from last season.
Beebout said that for an offense, taking the best available shot is crucial.
Beebout thinks that he may be able to use up to 10 players well.
Beebout feels that he has several players who can do a lot.
Beebout said that the four games before the holidays will give a good chance to see what works best.
On Friday, the Governors will open the season at the Riggs High gym against Harrisburg. Coverage will begin at 6:30 on 1060/107.1 KGFX with DRG Media Group Sports Director David Burrall. Live and archived video will be available at the KGFX page at drgnews.com.
