At the April 20th meeting of the Walworth County Commission, County Treasurer Amanda Silbernagel submitted her resignation which was accepted by the board. Silbernagel’s last day will be May 7th. Commission Chairman Jim Houck read her resignation letter…
Shari Rossow will apply for grant money for the playground for the 4-H livestock area as the project moves forward.
Deb Kahl spoke on behalf of the town of Akaska, requesting free landfill tipping for 25 tons in the month of May when the population of Akaska increases. A motion to approve was passed.
A motion to hire Brad Hompe as jail construction consultant was approved for a phase one study design. Commissioner Scott Schilling voted against.
A wage increase proposal for the sheriff’s transport officers in an effort to entice more people to apply was tabled until Sheriff Josh Boll is present to give more input. Currently the sheriff’s office is especially in need of female transport personnel.
For the highway department the commission approved joint power with Flint Hills to purchase road oil off of the McPherson County bid. They also approved the purchase of a rock bucket attachment for the skid steer. Highway Superintendent Gary Byre discussed the duration of weight limits. He’s looking at removing them by April 30th. There was also discussion on gravel crushing, and also holding a surplus auction.
