A Pierre City Commissioner is being recognized for his work with municipal utilities.
Missouri River Energy Services gave commissioner Jim Mehlhaff the company’s Community Leader Award during their virtual meeting last week (May 5). He was presented the plaque at last night’s (Tues.) city commission meeting.
The award recognizes individuals who have dedicated many years of service to their communities, locally owned utilities, MRES and public power.
Mehlhaff has served on the Pierre City Commission for 12 years, during which time he served as the Utility liaison for seven years.
He was involved at the local level in approving funding to restore lost infrastructure in neighborhoods hardest hit during the 2011 flood. He was also a member of the commission when a $13 million major upgrade was done to Pierre’s electric infrastructure.
Mehlhaff’s term on the Pierre City Commission is up and he’s decided not to run for reelection next month. Four candidates are competing for two seats. The candidates are current commissioner Jamie Huizenga as well as Todd Johnson, Amy Currie and Lucas Solberg.
