The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has given approval for the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine to be administered to adolescents between the ages of 12 and 15 years old.
The US Food and Drug Administration gave its approval to the Pfizer vaccine Monday (May 10, 2021).
According to US Census data, 48,120 South Dakota youth fall into this age group. Under state law, parental consent is still required to vaccinate minors.
The state Department of Health says as of yesterday (May 12), over 50% of the eligible population in the state had chosen to be vaccinated, with zero cases of serious adverse reactions recorded.
