A new skate park is in the works in Pierre.
Parks and Recreation director Tom Farnsworth says the new pool construction is the impetus behind the move. He says to build the outdoor pool the community asked for, the city needs to move the skate park to the east, onto the other side of Capital Creek– but still in Griffin Park.
Farnsworth says if all goes according to plan, the new park will be approximately the same size as the old park and include new concrete, half pipes, quarter pipes, bank ramps, a grind ledge, jump boxes and more. He says if contractors and supplies are readily available, the old park would be replaced with the new one yet this year.
At last night’s (May 25) meeting, the Pierre City Commission approved the request to surplus the current skate park equipment, purchase the new skate park equipment and bid the concrete. The city plans to start demolishing the old skate park as soon as the surplus materials are gone.
