A 33 year old Pierre resident has been arrested in connection with several local burglaries and thefts.
Information from the Pierre Police Department says May 14, 2021, city officers assisted the Hughes County Sheriff’s Office and South Dakota Highway Patrol with a rollover vehicle crash north of Pierre. The driver was Wesley Boni.
As officers were investigating the crash, a commercial burglary was reported in the 1400 block of Garfield Avenue. Officers at the scene of Boni’s rollover observed items consistent with those stolen during the burglary. Working with detectives at the burglary location, they determined the property was indeed stolen from the business and the vehicle Boni was driving when he crashed was stolen from another area in Pierre.
Further investigation revealed Boni was responsible for an additional residential burglary where an ATV was stolen from a garage, the theft of another vehicle from which he stole a firearm and a different firearm theft from an unlocked vehicle. Both firearms have since been recovered.
Boni is being held at the Hughes County Jail on charges of Burglary, Grand Theft and Criminal Entry of a Motor Vehicle.
Assisting the Pierre Police Department with its investigation were the Hughes County Sheriff’s Office, South Dakota Highway Patrol, South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation and the United States Marshal’s Office.
