A third gas line break in Pierre in about 36 hours was resolved quickly late this morning (Thurs.).
Pierre Volunteer Fire Department chief Ian Paul says a city crew putting in a water line near the intersection of Huron Avenue and Capitol Avenue hit the gas line. No evacuations were needed.
Yesterday (June 2), a contractor hit a gas line behind the Pierre Area Chamber of Commerce and the Discovery Center. Both buildings were evacuated for a short time.
A gas line break late Tuesday afternoon resulted in firefighters going to about a dozen residences to be sure they were empty while the leak was being repaired. Traffic was disrupted for about an hour.
No one was injured and no structures were damaged in any of the incidents.
