A combination of treatment applied to eliminate a nuisance weed and the recent hot temperatures are causing problems for some residents along the Missouri River at Pierre and Fort Pierre.
Chris Hull with the South Dakota Department of Game, Fish and Parks says curly pondweed is one culprit.
Hull says the low water level in the Missouri River is allowing algae to bloom, which is causing the majority of the problems right now.
So far, Hull says, the algae blooms showing up aren’t the type that can make people and animals ill.
