A Rockham, S.D., man has been identified as the person who died Sunday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash south of Wolsey.
Preliminary information indicates that a 2000 Buick LeSabre Limited was southbound on U.S. Highway 281. It collided with a northbound 1993 Chevrolet CK 109 pickup that was initially in the wrong lane.
John Trautman, the 77-year-old driver of the pickup, was taken to the Huron Hospital via ambulance where he died. He was not wearing a seat belt.
Kenneth Bignell of Letcher, 66, was the driver of the Buick. He suffered minor injuries and also was transported to the Huron hospital. He was wearing a seat belt.
That area of U.S. Highway 281 was closed to traffic for about five hours following the crash.
South Dakota’s Highway Patrol is in charge of the investigation. All information is preliminary at this time.
The Highway Patrol is part of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety.
