The US Senate Agriculture Committee will hold a hearing tomorrow afternoon (June 23 @ 1:30 CT) on potential cattle market manipulation.
South Dakota Senator John Thune is a member of the committee. He hopes the hearing brings to light what’s happening in the “highly concentrated meatpacking industry.”
Thune says among those testifying is Justin Tupper from St. Onge, SD.
One of the most challenging pieces to developing a solution may be reaching an agreement within the cattle industry itself. But, Thune says he’s encouraged by the amount of dialogue already happening between the various cattle groups.
Thune says while the hearing is a step in the right direction, the US Justice Department also needs to continue its investigation into the meat packing industry.
